Trick-or-treating for UNICEF

Hawaii Preparatory Academy students in grades K-8 will trick-or-treat for UNICEF again this Halloween. The school’s Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF project is being coordinated by the Lower School Student Council, under the direction of Mariah Dodd, the school’s counselor.

“As part of the service learning component here at HPA, the students have learned how even just small amounts of money can be so helpful for many causes, including children in need,” Dodd said. “The children are encouraged to begin saving their own pennies.

“They also are hopeful that the friends and neighbors they visit during Halloween evening will be generous in sharing whatever they can.”

For more than 60 years, millions of children in the United States, with their schools, families, and communities, have raised more than $135 million to help children in the developing world through their participation in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.

UNICEF helps the most disadvantaged children, no matter where they live, in 156 countries and territories around the world. UNICEF provides immunizations, education, health care, nutrition, clean water, and sanitation. For more information, contact Dodd at 885-2552.
