Free ‘College Mechanics’ class
A free “College Mechanics” workshop will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Kanu o ka ‘Aina New Century Public Charter School in Waimea. Adults and qualified high school juniors and seniors are invited.
Staffers from Hawaii Community College will discuss the University of Hawaii Common Application, documents that need to accompany a UH application, and the Compass Placement Test. The free workshop is for juniors and seniors who qualify for Running Start courses, adults interested in entering or returning to community college and current students enrolled in HCC who would like to attend English 100 classes in Waimea.
Additionally, three workshops to assist individuals in preparing for the Compass Placement Test will be offered from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Nov. 7, 14 and 28 at the Kanu o ka ‘Aina Learning ‘Ohana (KALO) Community Computer Lab. Funding through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services makes it possible to provide workshop materials free of charge.
The Compass Placement Test will be offered on Wednesday, Dec. 5, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the KALO Community Computer Lab. Call 890-2511.
‘Art of Art Biz’ workshop is set
“The Art of the Art Business,” a workshop hosted by the Waimea Arts Council, will be presented from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Firehouse Gallery at 67-1201 Mamaloha Highway in Waimea.
This new workshop will be a hands-on event that will feature developing an art portfolio, an artist’s statement, an exhibition, honors and awards list, press releases and other art marketing materials. Additionally, participants will learn how to interact with the public, share the meaning of their art, as well as how to apply successful, proven art sales techniques and sales closing methods.
Hawaii artist Aelbert Aehegma, who has been professionally exhibiting and doing the business of art for 35 years, will be the workshop presenter. His background includes both national and international exhibits. He holds a three-part Master of Arts Degree in Program Renaissance: Art Administration, Art in Education and Multi-media Art. He has been trained in corporate art sales with Dolphin Galleries, Kahn Gallery and Pacific Fine Art Gallery.
