The Big Island’s annual Project Linus Blanket Drive will be held Oct. 27 in Hilo and Kona on national Make a Difference Day.
Volunteers will be at the two Discount Fabric Warehouse sites from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. to accept donations of children’s blankets.
All blankets must be new and handmade — quilted, sewn, knitted, crocheted or created from fringed fleece. Storebought and/or used blankets cannot be accepted. Blankets must be machine washable and dryable, in kid-friendly colors and fabrics.
“Remember soft, warm and cheerful — no scratchy fabrics or adult prints,” said spokeswoman Kathleen Stacey. “Standard size is 40 inches by 60 inches. Please no smaller than 36 inches square, but larger blankets up to twin bed size are good for teens. Blankets go to children of all ages, both boys and girls.”
Take a handmade children’s blanket to Discount Fabric Warehouse at 933 Kanoelehua Ave. in Hilo or 74-5605 Luhia St. in Kailua-Kona and get a $5 DFW gift card.
The Project Linus Hilo Chapter distributes blankets to keiki in need across the Big Island. Blankets go to Child Welfare Services, Hospice of Hilo, Salvation Army, the Lokahi Giving Project, and other organizations helping children. Visit the website: http://plhi.shutterfly.com.
