The Japanese Chamber of Commerce will hold its 14th annual Taste of Hilo from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 21, at the Sangha Hall.
This year’s featured businesses include: AJ & Sons Catering, Aloha Mondays, Anheuser Busch, Better Brands, Big Island Delights, Cafe Pesto, Coca Cola Bottling, Cousins Seafood & Bento, Encore & Kuhio Grille, Everything Ono, Hawaii Community College Culinary Arts, Hawaii Island Gourmet Products, Hawaii Nui Brewing, Hawaiian Springs Natural Artesian Water, Higa’s Gourmet Specialities, Hilo Coffee Mill, Hilo Rice Noodle Soup, Island Naturals Market & Deli, Lehua Cafe/Keaau Youth Business Center, Moonstruck Patisserie, Paradise Beverages, Sansei Seafood Steak & Sushi Bar, Short N Sweet Bakery & Deli, Hilo Hawaiian Hotel/Queen’s Court Restaurant, Akmal’s Restaurant, and the Oasis Cafe.
Featured guest chef will be Philip “Ippy” Aiona, who recently competed on the “Food Network Star.” Aiona of Waimea is executive chef at his mother’s Italian restaurant, Solimene’s, and runs a food boutique and espresso bar. He attended Le Cordon Bleu in San Francisco.
This year’s event will emphasize the use of locally grown and raised products of the Big Island. Tickets are $40 in advance, $60 at the door. Tickets are available by calling the Japanese Chamber of Commerce at 934-0177 or by emailing jccih@jccih.org. A portion of the proceeds will support scholarships at Hawaii Community College.
