Hui Pono Holoholona will conduct a low-cost spay/neuter clinic for 40 cats on Oct. 18 at the Eagles Lodge in Keaau.
The cost is $25 for feral cats and $45 for pets, and financial assistance is available to those in need.
Registration needs to be done in advance, with appointments beginning at 8:30 a.m.
People need to preregister, and then make sure they keep their appointments, said Hui Pono President Frannie Pueo. To sign up, please email webmistress@hphhawaii.org or call 968-8279.
“Currently, over 1,000 healthy dogs and cats are being euthanized on our island each and every month. Why? Because there are not enough homes for all the puppies and kittens being born. The humane way to reduce animal overpopulation is to spay/neuter dogs and cats. Please, do not wait,” Pueo said. “We need volunteers to help that day with the clinic, so, if you are able, please stay and help.”
Cats need to be brought to the clinic in pet carriers or live humane traps and given no food or water prior to surgery.
Clean, used large T-shirts and towels are needed for this clinic, so if you have extras, please give Pueo a call.
Hui Pono also could use a few more volunteer feeders for a Trap, Neuter, Release & Maintain cat colony.
Donations of dry and wet pet food, clean used T-shirts, towels and sheets are always welcome.
Hui Pono Holoholona holds a public meeting from 10-11:30 a.m. on each second Sunday of the month at the Keaau Village Market. Visit www.hphhawaii.org.
