Pam Knox has been named Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance/Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Vulcans athletic director Dexter Irvin announced the hiring on Monday.
Irvin said her appointment is effective Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012.
Knox was Western Oregon University’s SWA and Student Athlete Advisory Committee Director from 2007-08. She was selected by WOU’s president to serve as the representative for women’s sports on Western Oregon Athletics Blue Ribbon Panel.
Knox steps away from a 19-year collegiate softball coaching career that provided many opportunities including the chair of the National Softball Committee (2011-12) and West Region RAC Softball Committee (2009-12). She also serves as the NCAA Site Director for Regional and Super Regional softball tournaments (2005-12).
“I am very excited for the opportunity to be part of the Vulcan family at University of Hawaii at Hilo,” Knox said. “This feels like a natural progression for me and I cannot wait to begin a new phase in my professional career.
“I feel blessed at the opportunity to make an impact on the Vulcan athletic department.”
Knox made four stops during her career as a head coach – Brown Mackie Junior College (1993-94), Park University (1994-96), Northwest Missouri State University (1996-2002) and Western Oregon (2002-12).
A 1985 graduate of Cal State Fullerton University, she completed her masters in exercise science at Central Missouri State in 1995. In2007, she graduated from the NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy.
“Being a coach for 16 years in the NCAA, you learn a lot about the rules and how to apply them,” Irvin said. “Then taking on the responsibilities of being a site director, you learn about the politics involved in the NCAA.
“Combined with her service on national committees, Pam will be a tremendous asset to our program’s development.”
