By the end of this month, members of the public can get their hands on the newest quarter from the U.S. mint, depicting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
At 1:30 p.m. Aug. 29, officials from the U.S. Mint and the National Park Service will present the new HVNP quarter at a ceremony with invited guests U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye and Gov. Neil Abercrombie at the Kahua Hula, south of Kilauea Visitor Center.
Following the ceremony, the public can exchange their cash for $10 rolls of newly minted quarters at face value. Other officials present include David Croft, the Denver Mint plant manager, HVNP Superintendent Cindy Orlando and county Tourism Specialist Stephanie Donoho.
At 7 p.m. on Aug. 28,the evening before the launch ceremony, the U.S. Mint will host a coin forum for the public to express their views about future coinage, and to learn about upcoming United States Mint coin programs and initiatives. The coin forum will be held at the Kilauea Visitor Center auditorium.
