Police charged a Pahoa man and a Papaikou man in connection with two unrelated burglaries.
South Hilo patrol officers responded on Wednesday to a burglary report at 7:30 a.m. on Pu‘uhina Street in Hilo. Tyson McDowell, 31, of Papaikou was found hiding on the property with drugs and paraphernalia, police said, along with stolen items and the victim’s house key.
McDowell was arrested and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while officers continued the investigation. Thursday, he was charged with burglary, theft, promoting a dangerous drug, marijuana possession, promoting a detrimental drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $10,250.
The other charge stems from a burglary at a Nanawale Estates home last month.
On July 15, at about 5 p.m., a couple residing in Nanawale Estates reported that someone had entered their home and removed several items, including personal checks.
Police detectives on Monday arrested Dennis Duane Lipps Jr., 20, of Pahoa. He was held at the Hilo police cellblock while detectives continued the investigation. He was charged Wednesday afternoon with burglary, theft, forgery and identity theft.
Lipps’ bail was set at $101,000. He had been scheduled to make his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon.
