The Hilo All-Stars will battle Nevada in the opening round of the Little League Western Regional Seniors Baseball Tournament on Tuesday in Ontario, Calif.
The nine-team tournament for players ages 15-17 runs Tuesday through Aug. 7 with the Western Regional champion advancing to the Seniors World Series, Aug. 11-18, in Bangor, Maine. Hilo is the defending World Series champion.
The talented Hilo squad will face Nevada at 3 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time Tuesday in Pool B play. The Big Islanders draw a bye Wednesday, then meet Montana at noon Thursday, Arizona at 3 p.m. Friday and Southern California ay 3 p.m. Sunday.
In Pool A is host Ontario, Washington, Oregon and Northern California.
The two top teams from each pool will advance to the semifinals on Aug. 6, with games at noon and 3 p.m.. The championship will be played at 3 p.m. Aug. 7.
Hilo, under manager Zackery Higa and assistant coaches Clayton Ah Hee and Gadi Pulgados, captured the state championship to earn the berth in the Western Regional. The Hilo All-Stars include Alika Guillermo, Chay Toson, Kupono Decker, Micah Ka’aukai, Kobi Candaroma, Bronson Pulgados, Ryan Torres-Torioka, Chad Teshima, Makoa Rosario, Tyler Higa-Gonsalves, Kihei Serrao, Elijah Cruz, Tyler Thornley, Evyn Yamaguchi and Austin Ah Hee.
