A Hawaii team that included Waiakea senior Ciera Min held on for a one-stroke victory Thursday at the Girls Junior America’s Cup in Kehei, Maui.
Starting the day with a 10-stroke lead, Hawaii shot 4-over 220 and finished at even par to hold off a charge from Southern California.
Honolulu’s Mariel Galdiano (2-under 70) and Eimi Koga (74) tied for third overall at 2-under. Honolulu’s Rose Huang, whose 77 in the final round didn’t count toward her team’s score, was 15th at 5-over, and Min closed with a 76 to finish another stroke back in a tie for 16th.
Southern California’s Elisabeth Bernabe (71) finished at 5-under to take medallist honors in a tournament that drew 18 teams from three countries.
— Hawaii Prep senior Andrew Paisley shot 9-over 79 as Hawaii finished 11th out of 17 teams at the Junior America’s Cup in Eagle, Idaho.
Northern California posted a three-round 7-under 623 to grab the title. Oahu golfers Skye Inakoshi (76—218) and PJ Samiere (70—219) led Hawaii (657), tying for 26th and 29th, respectively. Oahu’s Eric Le (77—224) tied for 40th and Paisley tied for 49th another three shots back.
Southern California’s Rico Hoey (66) was first among 68 players at 9-under 201.
