The University of Hawaii at Hilo Art Department has set an Oct. 1 deadline for the Pacific States Biennial National juried print exhibition. The show is hosted in conjunction with the UHH Campus Center Gallery with support from the Student Activities Council. It is open to all artists 18 years or older living in the United States and its territories.
The premier printmaking exhibition will be judged by Karen Kunc, Cather Professor of Art in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Kunc is internationally recognized for color woodblock prints, artists books and workshop presentations that explore inventive color abstractions of the natural and human-fashioned world; visual impact, tensions and ideas of strange beauty. The a Nebraska-based artist also works in New York, Italy, Colorado and Helsinki, Finland. Kunc’s works are in the collections of: the Museum of Modern Art; the Library of Congress; the Smithsonian American Art Museum; Worcester Art Museum; Walker Art Center Library; Salo Art Museum, Finland; Milwaukee Art Museum and the Hyndai Art Center Gallery in Korea.
Additional recognitions include the 2007 Printmaker Emeritus Award from the Southern Graphics Council International; a Fulbright Scholar Award to Finland; two National National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships; artist residencies at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in New York, the Venice Printmaking Studio, Italy, the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and Nagasawa Art Park in Awaji, Japan.
