San Rafael’s Jake Rasner handcuffed the Hawaii Stars over seven innings and teammates Johnny Woodard and Maikel Jova hit solo home runs to lead the host Pacifics to a 10-2 win on Thursday night.
Rasner (6-0) limited the Stars to six hits while striking out eight and walking one in a strong performance before 738 fans in the North American Baseball League game at Albert Park in San Rafael, Calif.
The Pacifics (21-12) lead the six-game series 2-1 heading into today’s 4:30 p.m. contest with the Stars (18-15).
Rasner picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief from Matthew Stabelfeld. Hawaii starter Bryan Herrera, who gave up nine hits and seven runs in 4 2/3 innings, took the loss. Ryan Screnar took over for Herrera (2-2) in the fifth and finished.
The Pacifics scored four runs in the bottom of the first, one in the second and two in the fourth to grab a 7-0 lead. Dion Poncil had a two-run homer in the fifth inning to plate the two Hawaii runs off the hard-throwing Rasner. But the hosts added a solo run in the sixth and two in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Jova and John Hurst each had three hits to lead the Pacifics’ 14-hit attack. Woodard, Jova and Henry Calderon each had two RBIs for the hosts.
Steven Tedesco and Anthony Lopez had two hits apiece to lead the Stars. The visitors finished with eight hits.
Both teams played well on defense. The Stars didn’t make an error while the Pacifics had one.
