Volleyball officials
meeting, seminar set
The Hawaii Island Sports Officials Association is holding a general open membership meeting for volleyball officials and a free National Federation of High School volleyball rules and regulations seminar.
The meeting and seminar will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Waimea Community Center and again at 10 a.m. Saturday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo campus.
HISOA is a new sports officials organization seeking volleyball officials for youth, parks and recreation and possibly some high school tournaments.
The seminar is intended for new and current volleyball officials but is also open to youth and high school coaches.

Age group basketball
meeting set for today
The Department of Parks and Recreation will hold an age group basketball meeting at 5 p.m. today at Aunty Sally’s Luau House.
The meeting is mandatory for all coaches or team representatives interested in playing in either the girls or boys leagues for ages 8-10.

Waiakea golfer cards
77 at Girls Junior
Waiakea senior Ciera Min shot a 5-over 77 on Wednesday and missed the cut at the U.S. Girls Junior championship in Daly City, Calif.
Min, the only Big Island competitor in either the boys or girls events, finished tied for 92nd after two rounds of qualifying at 18-over.
Seven athletes among
scholarship winners
Hilo graduate Kayla Ongais (swimming, water polo, volleyball), Waiakea graduate Grant Uekawa (swimming), Kealakehe graduate Kelly Jernigan (swimming), Kamehameha graduates Kawehi Lopez (surfing, paddling) and Crispin Nakoa (surfing), Hualalai graduate Whitney Pautz (canoeing) and Waiakea senior Madisyn Uekawa (swimming) were among the Hawaii athletes to receive scholarships or grants from the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation.
Individuals or nonprofit groups — 61 in all — had to be involved in water sports or volleyball to be eligible for the $130,950 that was awarded.
The foundation held its luncheon Monday on Oahu.
