A Kona couple was arrested Monday when they couldn’t resist the urge to merge in public.
Police say 35-year-old Dylan Trask Whelden and 33-year-old Margaret Manza, both of Kailua-Kona, were having sex on a sidewalk fronting a Kaiwi Street business building in the old Kona Industrial Area when they were arrested shortly after 4 p.m. Monday.
A police spokeswoman said Manza allegedly spit and cursed at one of the cops who curtailed the alleged afternoon delight.
Whelden was charged with open lewdness, a petty misdemeanor. His bail was set at $250.
Manza was charged with open lewdness, disorderly conduct, harassment and theft. The theft charge was for allegedly stealing a $2 blouse from the Salvation Army Ohana Thrift Store. In addition, she was charged with contempt of court and failure to appear. Her bail was set at $1,600.
Both made their initial appearances, presumably clothed, Tuesday in Kona District Court.
