A Japanese government plane, one of two used by the nation’s prime minister and other high ranking officials, sits at Hilo International Airport on Thursday. The Boeing 747-400 arrived in Hilo at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday as part of a training flight, said Caroline Sluyter, state Department of Transportation spokeswoman. It departed at 10 a.m. Thursday. Its next stop was Tahiti followed by the Philippines, said Schimpei Ara, counsel for defense affairs at the Japanese consulate in Honolulu. Hilo was its first stop. Only crew members were on board.
