HONOLULU (AP) — Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu will be making five appearances at a Honolulu cathedral.
The Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii says the retired Anglican Church’s archbishop of South Africa will speak at four events and participate in an interfaith prayer service at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in August.
In 1994, after the end of apartheid and the election of Nelson Mandela as president, Tutu was appointed to chair a commission to investigate apartheid-era crimes. He continues advocating for peace and justice.
On Aug. 3, Tutu will participate in a discussion with PBS Hawaii President and CEO Leslie Wilcox. He will give a lecture the following day. On Aug. 5, he will be the preacher for morning service and then lead the interfaith prayer in the afternoon.
