Stage: A 133-mile flat ride along the English Channel from Abbeville to Rouen.
Winner: Andre Greipel of Germany, who made the most of teammate Greg Henderson’s perfect lead-out to win a bunch sprint ahead of Alessandro Petacchi of Italy and Tom Veelers of the Netherlands.
Crash: Ace sprinter Mark Cavendish of Britain was involved in a crash less than 2 miles from the finish but his team said he only suffered “superficial” injuries.

Quote of the Day: “If we all accept that we are humans and not inherently perfect, you have to accept that everyone deserves a second chance, and that everyone deserves to prove themselves in front of the fans and people. That’s a fundamental value for me.” — Garmin team manager Jonathan Vaughters about David Millar’s inclusion on the British Olympic cycling team.
Today’s fifth stage: A 122-mile flat trek from Rouen to Saint-Quentin. Sprinters are expected to battle for the stage win.
