The Walmart Foundation’s Hawaii State Giving Council has announced grants totaling $200,000 for six Hawaii-based nonprofits, including $50,000 to The Food Basket, the Big Island’s food bank.
Other recipients include the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii ($25,000), Hale Kipa ($25,000), Hawaii Foodbank ($50,000), Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross ($50,000) and Project Vision Hawaii ($25,000).
Hawaii 501(c)3 nonprofits are encouraged to apply for additional 2012 grant funds at walmartfoundation.org/stategiving by the program’s final deadline on Aug. 10. The minimum award for each grant is $25,000.
“We’re proud to support nonprofit organizations in the communities we serve,” said Brian Halsey, Hawaii market manager for Walmart.
“The Hawaii State Giving Program is a way to focus our contributions and make them count throughout the islands.”
In 2011, Walmart stores, Sam’s Club locations and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $1.1 million in cash and in-kind donations to local organizations in the communities they serve in Hawaii. Through additional funds donated by customers, and Walmart and Sam’s Club associates throughout the state, the retailer’s contributions in Hawaii totaled more than $1.5 million.
