Medical reimbursement training set at HCC
Changing federal and state regulations regarding reimbursement for health care services have fueled the demand for trained health care reimbursement specialists. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in medical records technology is expected to grow at a faster rate than employment in other industries through 2016.
Health care reimbursement specialists with a strong background in medical coding will be in especially high demand. To meet community needs for these changes, the Hawaii Community College Office of Continuing Education and Training is offering a new session of its Medical Reimbursement Specialist Program beginning July 21.
This course, taught by Jonathan Domingo, focuses on introducing students to the profession and practice of medical billing.
Estee Nathanson, coordinator at the college, said, “Students learn how to facilitate the claims paying process from the time a service is rendered by a health care provider until the balance is paid. Domingo teaches the job skills that prepare students for medical positions throughout the health care industry.”
After successful completion of the 10-week training, participants take a nationally recognized exam, Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS), a designation awarded by the Certifying Board of the American Medical Billing Association (AMBA).
Nathanson said according to free-press-release.com, “the medical billing field is part of the rapidly growing health care reimbursement field. According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics in the Medical Records and Health Information Technicians category, this field is individually expected to experience 21 percent employment growth between 2010 and 2020, which equates to over 37,000 new jobs,”
