Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center has named Julie Mitchell as its new executive director. Mitchell, who most recently served as general manager for Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, brings more than a decade of nonprofit experience to the position.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Ms. Mitchell to our organization,” said KMC board President Andrew Wilson. “Julie brings a breath of fresh air to Ku‘ikahi, with some innovative ideas to improve services, increase capacity and expand our community outreach.”
Mitchell replaces Cheryl Parkinson, who resigned to move back to the mainland. Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit incorporated in 2006, after being a program of the Hawaii Island YMCA since 1983.
KMC has a long history of providing free and low-cost mediation services on the island.
“Our mission is to provide a safe environment, an impartial process and skilled, trained personnel for the delivery of affordable dispute prevention and resolution services to the East Hawaii community,” said Wilson.
Ku‘ikahi is funded in part by the Hawaii State Judiciary, County of Hawaii, Hawaii Island United Way, other community funding sources and individual donations.
