Waiakea senior Ciera Min and Honolulu’s Eimi Koga both carded 2-under par 70s on Tuesday on Maui to claim medalist honors at a sectional qualifier for the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur.
Youngin Chun, a 12-year-old from South Korea, shot a 71 to earn the third spot at the national championship, scheduled for July 16-21 in Daly City, Calif.
Waiakea junior Andi Igawa finished with an 80 at Wailea’s Old Blue Course.
— Konawaena senior Ryley Chong carded a 5-over 77 at Wailea and was five strokes off a potential qualifying spot for the U.S. Junior Amateur. Hilo’s Taisei Negishi opened with a 78.
Honolulu’s Richard Hattori shot a 68 and held a two-stroke lead heading into the final 18 holes of qualifying today.
Honolulu’s John Oda was at 70, while a group of three golfers were tied for third at 72. The top three will reach the championships, July 16-21 in New Hampshire.
