Central Oahu development gets state approval
MILILANI, Hawaii (AP) — The state has given a developer approval to build thousands of homes on central Oahu farmland.
The state Land Use Commission on Thursday approved most of the planned Koa Ridge Community — one of the largest developments planned for the island.
Opposition includes Sierra Club Hawaii Chapter and residents who decry the loss of valuable farmland. But others say the growing population requires more housing.
Castle & Cook in Hawaii expects to move forward with plans to build a mixed-used community between Mililani and Waipio that will include 5,000 houses, a medical center and commercial property.
