Four University of Hawaii at Hilo students have received $1,000 scholarships from the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Hilo Branch.
On behalf of the organization, AAUW-Hilo Scholarship Committee members Margaret Elcock and Jane Panek congratulates scholarship winners Christine Nguyen, a pharmacy student; Ashli Hirai, who is studying animal science and pre-veterinary medicine; Corina Sampaia, who is majoring in mathematics education, and Mariah Partida, a philosophy major.
Applicants were selected based on academic performance, financial need, letters of recommendation and personal statements about their educational inspiration and goals.
AAUW was delighted to have candidates of such high caliber in their respective fields from which to choose their scholarship recipients,” said spokeswoman Sheryl Rawson.
