The five students participated in the High School Business Plan and Marketing Plan Competitions, a joint program developed by the state Department of Education and the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship in the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

The Hilo business students entered the business plan, marketing plan and written event contests along with peers from across the state.

The duo of Shonn Hironaga and Kaylan Young won divisional medals, finalist medals, second-place overall plaques and a $600 cash prize in the business plan event, along with fourth- and fifth-place, respectively, entrepreneurship exam medals.

“We want to send a special mahalo to Kandi’s Drive Inn’s Candace Fukuda-Hanle, who allowed our marketing students to develop the marketing plan for Kandi’s Drive Inn,” said WHS adviser Sheri Kojima.
