Medical Qigong classes start in May at VAC
Medical Qigong classes will return to the Volcano Art Center starting in May. This ancient component of traditional Chinese medicine is used to improve both physical and mental healing through a focused practice of movement, postures and breathing techniques, said a VAC spokesman.
“The beauty of qigong is that it is for everyone,” stated VAC exec Tanya Aynessazian. “The practice is similar to both yoga and Tai Chi, but less strenuous and much easier to learn. It teaches us how to send loving, restorative energy to heal our own bodies, calm our minds and nurture our souls.”
A free introductory class will be offered for beginners on Thursday, May 10, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. No prior experience is necessary. Beginning Qigong for Adults begins on Thursday, May 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and continues each Thursday through June 21. Intermediate Qigong for Adults begins on Wednesday, May 2, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and continues each Wednesday through June 13. All classes will be held at the Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. Tuition is $70. To sign up, call 967-8222 or email julie@volcanoartcenter.org.
