Pianists play to
raise Palace roof
Quack Moore and Anthony Maroudas will present a recital of piano duets — One Piano, Four Hands — this week in a benefit recital for the Palace Theater’s much-needed new roof.
The program will include Schubert’s March Militaire, Eight Hungarian Dances by Brahms, Darius Milhaud’s Suite Francaise and Rachmaninoff’s Six Morceaux.
Showtime is at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, at First United Protestant Church, 1350 Waianuenue Ave., in Hilo. Phone 935-5914 for more details.
Tickets will be available only at the door. Adult admission is $15, with $10 tickets for senior citizens and students. Admission is free for keiki age 12 and younger.
VOAD meeting set for May 15
The East Hawaii Chapter of Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, or VOAD, will hold its quarterly general meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the Civil Defense Agency office at 920 Ululani St. in Hilo.
VOAD is the forum where organizations share knowledge and resources throughout the disaster cycle — preparation, response and recovery — to help disaster survivors and their communities.
Members of VOAD form a coalition of nonprofit organizations that respond to disasters as part of their overall mission.
All interested organizations are invited to attend and become members.

Apply for UHH disabilities grant
Applications are due June 30 for the annual University of Hawaii at Hilo Scholars with Disabilities Achievement Grant.
Each year, the award recognizes and honors a student with a disability for his or her superior scholastic performance. Eligible are students who plan to enroll, or are already enrolled, at UHH for the fall 2012 semester. Students may be enrolled either full- or part-time and need to have a 3.0 GPA.
