Maui lawmaker will attend Hana taro festival

HONOLULU (AP) — Maui Sen. J. Kalani English is heading to Hana Saturday for the 20th Annual East Maui Taro Festival.

English will be presenting a Senate certificate of recognition at the event. The Hana-native helped organize the first East Maui Taro festival.

The event at the Hana Ballpark will include a Farmer’s Market, poi pounded, food booths, arts and crafts, music and hula.

English says the festival is an opportunity to bridge the cultural gap between children and seniors using taro as a common thread.
