Hawaii County Clerk Jamae Kawauchi will address the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Hawaii County at the group’s annual meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Daniel’s Restaurant at 65-1259 Kawaihae Road in Waimea. The public is invited.
Hawaii County Clerk Jamae Kawauchi will address the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Hawaii County at the group’s annual meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Daniel’s Restaurant at 65-1259 Kawaihae Road in Waimea. The public is invited.
A business meeting at 10 a.m. will include greetings and the annual report by co-Presidents Sue Dursin and Donna Oba, election of incoming directors and officers, adoption of the budget and program for FY 2012-2013, and recognition of outgoing officers and directors. Fellow Leaguers are invited to attend the business meeting.
Kawauchi’s talk will start promptly at 11 a.m. Appointed county clerk in 2010, she is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii Richardson School of Law, a former Harvard University fellow and previous assistant director of Harvard Medical School’s Center of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities.
She is a former president of the County of Hawaii Bar Association. She is a land use, business and civil attorney who worked with Carlsmith Ball and Tsukazaki, Yeh and Moore and had her own law practice. She recently served on the County Charter Commission, which came up with numerous amendments that were approved in the general election in November 2010.
The LWV has asked Kawauchi to discuss such topics as changes in the law or particular challenges; the role of absentee balloting in relation to an increasing number of permanent absentee voters; the effect of redistricting and reapportionment; voter verification procedures, and changes in electronic procedures. She will be open to questions from the audience.

Membership in the LWV is open to all citizens of voting age; non-citizens and citizens not yet of voting age can be associate members.
