Docent training May 12 at Anna Ranch
The Anna Ranch Heritage Center is seeking volunteer interpretive guides for its historic home tour. A docent training series will begin on Saturday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to noon. at the center at 65-1480 Kawaihae Road in Waimea.
“Learn the craft of interpreting and sharing historical information with the public. If you have an interest in preserving the history of Waimea and the local paniolo, this docent training is for you,” said spokeswoman Maka Wiggins.
“It was Anna Lindsey Perry-Fiske’s desire that her ranch home would one day become an educational arena to perpetuate the early history of ranching in Hawaii. Donate your time as a volunteer, or come down for the day and visit with us,” said Wiggins. The historic home and gift shop are open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with guided tours at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“Stroll through our peaceful gardens and take a self-guided tour on our Discovery Trail. Stop and talk story with our artisans, Ethan Froney, on-site blacksmith, and Albert Moniz, on-site saddle maker,” she said.
For more information about the docent training, including how to sign up, please contact Wiggins, the center’s volunteer coordinator, at 885-4426, or email programs@annaranch.org. Visit www.annaranch.org.
