Illegal immigrant sentenced in Maui molestation
WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) — An illegal immigrant on Maui will be deported to his native Mexico after he is released from prison for molesting a 5-year-old girl.
A Maui judge sentenced Jose Luis Hernandez-Dominguez to 10 years in prison for the molesting the girl, whose family is also living in the country illegally.
He pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of second-degree sexual assault after the girl told her mother she was repeatedly molested.
The Maui News (http://bit.ly/I9YGlq ) reported Thursday Prosecutor Robert Rivera says the case highlights the need for immigrants to report crimes of sexual and domestic violence against women and children.
Rivera says the girl feared her family would be deported if she reported the molestation.
Deputy Public Defender Shelly Miyashiro says Hernandez-Dominguez is remorseful for what happened.
