Navy and Marine personnel stationed at the Pohakuloa Training Area recently took two days off from their busy schedule to spend time with students at E.B. deSilva Elementary School.
Under the direction of U.S. Navy LTJG Alex Cho, a group of Marines in moved a truckload of gravel to sites on campus.
The following week, Cho returned with 10 Marines and two Navy medics, all dressed in casual civilian garb, to read books to students in each classroom, then joined the keiki for recess.
“The feeling of good will, joy and sheer happiness was deeply felt by each of our 411 students, our 71 staff members, and the outstanding young Marines and Navy personnel,” said a school spokesman. “The students were in awe as they listened to the young Marines give a brief story of their experiences, stressing the importance of doing well in school and being good citizens.”
