Waiakeawaena Elementary School is seeking nominations to fill two seats on its School Community Council (SCC) for the 2012 to 2014 academic years.
The Waiakeawaena SCC is an advisory board able to make suggestions for school improvement. The two seats open for the 2012-2014 academic years are for a parent member and community member.
Parents of current Waiakeawaena students may nominate themselves or other Waiakeawaena parents to run for the position of parent member, as well as business owners or residents who live in the school’s geographical area to run as community members.
“Being part of the Waiakeawaena School Community Council is a rewarding experience. Members provide feedback to the school’s leadership about student success rates, the academic and financial plan, and other school matters,” said spokeswoman Mara Matsumura. “Being a SCC member enables parents to be more involved.”
The SCC meets once a month in the afternoon or evening. Attendance is the key, and elected members’ input is valued, said Matsumura.
Nomination forms are due April 25 at the school office, to the attention of Matsumura. To request nomination forms, call her at 981-7200.
