Cori Reinhardt and Caitlin Wallace combined on a two-hit shutout to lift Cal State Monterey Bay to a 3-0 win over the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Tuesday.
The NCAA Division II West Region softball game was played in Seaside, Calif.
The host Otters improved to 30-8 overall. The Vulcans fell to 16-17.
Reinhardt started and pitched four innings, holding the Vulcans to one hit and without a run. She struck out three and walked two. Wallace hurled the final three innings, limiting UHH to one hit while striking out four and walking one. Wallace (6-2) got the win.
UHH starter Amber Waracka (5-5) went the distance and took the loss. She allowed three runs on three hits, striking out five and walking one.
The Otters scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth to give Wallace all the run support she would need.
Jamie Moon hit a two-run homer, Angelina Orozco had a triple and Nina Villanueva drove in the other run to spark the Otters’ three-hit attack.
Bryanna Hardy (double) and Brittany Spencer (single) had UHH’s only hits.
Oahu-bound
The Vulcans next play Brigham Young University-Hawaii on Friday in a single PacWest game at Laie; vs. Hawaii Pacific University in a conference twinbill on Saturday; and then vs. Chaminade in a single PacWest game on Monday.
