The Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School is having its annual Point Project on Thursday, April 5. The annual event is held at Laupahoehoe Point to mark anniversary of the April 1, 1946, tsunami that claimed the lives of 24 Laupahoehoe School teachers and students.
All are welcome to attend this tsunami memorial service from 8:30-10 a.m.
After the memorial service, the students work on a service project in order to give back to their community, pulling invasive weeds, cleaning out the fishponds, etc. In addition, the senior class plants a coconut palm. Many of the coconut palms that are of varying heights were planted by Laupahoehoe students.
