Glad Tidings Church of Hilo will present its 3rd annual Passion in the Park on Good Friday, April 6, at Mooheau Park in downtown Hilo.
Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with live entertainment in the bandstand. Na Hoku Hanohano winner Mark Yamanaka will perform at noon.
Peter Cottontail will arrive at 2 p.m., showering the keiki with lots of candies. Former American Idol finalist Jordan Segundo will perform at 2:30 p.m. The fun continues until 5:30 p.m., with more music, children’s activities at Peter Cottontail’s Trail and food concessions.
There will be free drawings throughout the day. One of the prizes is an overnighter stay at the Waimea Country Lodge.
As the sun sets, the scene will shift to the grassy lawn under the large canopies of the park’s banyan trees. This is where the outdoor drama of the Passion in the Park comes to life.
“This drama of the Passion of Christ incorporates the traditional and the cultural through the use of drama, signing, and media. Come and allow us to bless you, our ohana of Hilo,” said spokesman Roddy Rodrigues.
“Experience the epic story that never grows old. Let us together rekindle our gratitude to God for his always present help in all seasons,” he said. “Enjoy an evening under the stars with the Passion in the Park.”
