Elderly residents should be aware of strangers offering unsolicited services, Hawaii police say.
Unlicensed individuals are “aggressively approaching elderly persons” offering landscape services or vehicle and home repair, doing a shoddy job and demanding money higher than the agreed upon price, police said.
Elderly friends and relatives should be warned to beware of unsolicited requests to perform work, police said. Also, if someone requires this type of work, they should hire a licensed contractor or someone they know and trust.
Anyone who has been the victim of such encounters should call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
