The Waimea community is invited to join middle school families, faculty, and students in “Charting The Future” for Waimea’s Public Conversion Charter School from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, in the school cafeteria.
To move forward the leadership transition at Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School, interested community members, families, faculty, staff and students of WMS are being invited by the Local School Board Ho‘okako‘o Corp. to participate in a facilitated work group planning session. The all-day work group will review academic accomplishments and needs, current school programs and chart new opportunities for WMS students, said HC in its invitation to all stakeholders.
HC says the recommendations of this work group will be incorporated in the current leadership search and the school’s academic improvement plan and budget for coming years. HC hopes to recruit 10 family members, 10 community members and 10 faculty and staff, plus three students and several educational experts to participate in a transition process that will lead to the re-formation of a Local Advisory Panel.
The letter of invitation, application to participate and more explanation of the school’s leadership transition process are posted on the school’s website: www.waimeamiddleschool.com under “Leadership Transition.”
For more information, call the school’s interim principal Lydia Trinidad at 887-6090, ext. 225, or email Lydia_Trinidad@notes.k12.hi.us, or call HC Executive Director Megan McCorriston at 938-3835.

Rep. Mark Nakashima reports that $1 million for funding for the plans, design, land acquisition and construction of a sidewalk connecting Mamane Street with the North Hawaii Education and Research Center is in the budget (HB 2012 HD1). If the Senate accepts this provision, the project will become part of the state budget.
The pedestrian path will provide increased safety between Mamane Street and the cluster of state facilities in Honokaa town (Hale Ho‘ola, NHERC, Hamakua Health Center). This path way will help the Honokaa Business Association meet its goal of creating greater connectivity and facilitating safe access within the area.
To see what else is in the House budget, go to the legislative website at www.capitol.hawaii.gov and enter “HB2012.” For questions about the budget or other legislative matters, contact Rep. Nakashima at 974-4000, ext. 6-6680, or email him at repnakashima@capitol.hawaii.gov.
