Benjamin Comawas Mahilum, 82, of Honokaa died May 10 at home. Born in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, Philippines, he was a retired professor in soil science at the University of Hawaii and for Philippines universities. Services held. Condolences to the family at P.O. Box 1213, Honokaa, HI 96727. Survived by wife, Paulita Mahilum of Honokaa; sons, David (Elsie) Mahilum of the Philippines, Lyman (Marife) Mahilum of Yokosuka, Japan, Jorge (Debbi) Mahilum of Kailua-Kona, and Don (Seanna) Mahilum of Mililani, Oahu; daughters, Lourdes (Cesar) Nadala of Seattle, Junever (John West) Mahilum-West of Toronto; 20 grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Cremation Services of West Hawaii.
Sandra Catherine Pillette, 68, of Ocean View died April 27 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Detroit, she was a substitute teacher at Pahala High School, designed Kahuku Park and Kahuku Fire Station and was a member of Elks Club of Kona. Private services. Survived by son, Kelly Pillette of Ocean View; stepson, David Pillette III of Michigan; stepdaughter, Mary (Ken) Popour of Michigan; sisters, Andrea (Fred) Ohr of New Jersey and Kathleen Wallace of Michigan; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
