Two Thirty Meter Telescope protesters arrested April 2 for obstructing construction workers’ access to Mauna Kea Access Road were convicted Thursday on petty misdemeanor charges in Waimea.
Ronald Fujiyoshi, 75, of Hilo was placed on probation for six months and sentenced to five days of jail, with four days suspended provided he doesn’t violate the law during his probation, and one day credit for time served, according to court records.
Linda Leilani Lindsey-Kaapuni, 55, of Hilo was sentenced to 100 hours community service.
Both were found guilty after bench trials before District Judge Barbara Takase.
Numerous protesters arrested on the mountain still face bench trials in Waimea District Court.
Two, Joseph Alapai and Michel Prevost, both arrested June 24, pleaded no contest on Sept. 3 and were fined $200 each.
