Having fun at golf, no matter what your level, is focus of radio show

This week's guests on "Emily Gail Talks Golf" -- to be broadcast at 6 p.m. Saturday on ESPN Radio, AM850 in Hilo and AM790 in Kona -- will include Wendy Gaertner and her son, Riley Gaertner, Dr. Shay Bintliff, Joni Metzler and KAPA's Kahikina.

Wendy Gaertner is the fitness director at Kukio and a trained personal trainer certified by Titleist Performance Institute out of San Diego. She is an Ironman Triathlon veteran who loves recreational golf bcause she can play with her son, who has just taken up the sport at age 6.

Bintliff practices medicine at the new emergency room in Honokaa. She plays a lot of golf as a member of the Hapuna Winter Club. She is an avid paddler, is featured in the award-winning "Surf for Life" movie and is an enthusiastic spokesperson for golf.

Metzler is the director of sales at Kohanaiki. Her father was a Class A PGA pro who got her involved in junior golf and she continues to play for love of the game.

The conversations on this week's show will be about "how to have fun regardless of the level of golf you play," said host Gail. "Each of the guests gives us their story of how they started playing golf, and why, and how they continue to love the game and share their own encouraging words to women who want to take up the game."

KAPA's Kahikina is also a guest this week. He talks about his "1st Annual Slippa Golf Tournament" at Makalei on Sunday, March 25. Participants will -play the course wearing slippers instead of the more traditional golf shoes. The fundraiser for Punana Leo O Kona will be in a scramble format, with plenty of good food and prizes.
