East Hawaii Independent Physicians Association hired Dr. Scott Kronlund to be its first full-time chief medical director.
Kronlund and his wife, Michele, moved to Hilo from Tacoma, Wash., where he previously served as president and chief medical officer of Northwest Physicians Network.
Kronlund will help strengthen the current network of private, independent physicians to improve patient access to quality care and create the infrastructure to attract and retain new providers.
“He is uniquely qualified to support IPA’s development goals,” the IPA said in a news release. “At Northwest Physicians Network, he successfully negotiated major-payer (health plan) contracts, set up robust referral management and care coordination services and recruited physicians to support private practices.”
Board President Dr. Lynda Dolan said the East Hawaii Independent Physicians Association “is looking forward to Dr. Kronlund’s experience engaging providers and helping us strengthen our independent practices collectively to better serve our community now and in the future.”
East Hawaii Independent Physicians Association is an 80-member association of independent physicians serving 50,000-plus patients on Hawaii Island. Established in 1994, its mission is to “empower independent health care providers on Hawaii Island to improve quality, increase access and lower costs to achieve better health.”
