Checks can be made out to Casey Kaliloa, the officer’s wife.
The mailing address for the station is 15-2615 Keaau-Pahoa Highway, Pahoa, HI 96778.
“Donations are already starting to come in. We’ll make sure they get it,” said Maj. Samuel Jelsma, the Puna police commander.
Hawaii Tribune-Herald and West Hawaii Today on Friday announced they are donating a combined $5,000 to the family.
“The loss of Officer Kaliloa is a tragedy,” said David Bock, editor and publisher of the Tribune-Herald. “I encourage anyone who is saddened by his death to help support his ohana with a monetary contribution. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
Those wanting to donate online can visit a GoFundMe page under the name “Kaliloa ‘Ohana.” It was set up for the family by Teleise Scanlan, who Jelsma confirmed is the wife of a fellow Puna patrol officer. The URL is www.gofundme.com/kaliloa-ohana.
As of Friday, the page had raised more than $30,000 in two days.
