Hawaii Island video artist Ken Goodrich will present “A Marriage of Light and Music” at 7 p.m. Wednesday during the next meeting of the Hilo Photography Club.
Goodrich draws inspiration from classical and world music genres as well as from pioneers of photography and alternative cinema.
He has produced visuals for bands including the Grateful Dead, Boz Scaggs, Elvin Bishop, Jefferson Starship and Jackson Browne, as well as for classical music and dance concerts. His corporate productions have included events for Apple, Oracle and Adobe Systems.
Goodrich’s work uses photography to engage viewers on an emotional and spiritual level. His videos and site-specific installations have been described as “impressionistic marriages of light, color and sound.”
Through his work, he seeks to reveal the inter-connectedness of all beings with nature and spirit.
The first presentation of the evening, “A Marriage of Light and Music,” inspired by the recent volcanic events on the Big Island, is a short video set to music that evokes the undeniable power of nature.
In his second video, Goodrich features the softer side of Mother Nature with images of the Catskill Mountains in peak fall color with music by Brahms.
There also will be a brief discussion of the process of matching images with music. After a short intermission, the club’s quarterly photo review will be presented, including club member images of current volcanic events.
The Hilo Photography Club meets the third Wednesday of each month at the Kamana Senior Center, 127 Kamana St. Admission is free and light refreshments are served at intermission.
The membership includes photographers of all ages ranging from beginner to professional. Club activities include monthly meetings, photography field trips and workshops. Memberships are $15 per year.
