The event, called “First Take with Science Friday,” is presented by Hawaii Public Radio.
Appearing onstage with Flatow, a veteran science correspondent, are:
• Greg Asner, a Stanford University professor and staff scientist with the Carnegie Institution for Science, who is applying the technology of the Carnegie Airborne Observatory to mapping Hawaii’s ‘ohi‘a forests.
• Alison Greggor, whose work at the Keauhou Bird Conservation Center is focused on reintroducing the ‘alala (Hawaiian crow) to the wild.
• Lisa Keith, the lead researcher at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service on rapid ‘ohi‘a death.
In addition to the onstage conversation between Flatow and the scientists, audiences will be able to participate with questions of their own. The interviews and Q&A’s will be taped for possible future national broadcast on “Science Friday.”
The event also will include musical interludes from local jazz ensemble Red Water Trio.
