The Orchid Isle Orchestra’s concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at the East Hawaii Cultural Center will offer something for everyone — spy-related music, Beatles arrangements and a fiddling piece, along with soloists and familiar classical selections.

Iggy Jang, concertmaster of the Hawaii Symphony, will conduct the orchestra in the finale of Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings.”
Orchid Isle Artistic Director Cathy Young will conduct Contrasts in E Minor by Francis L. Feese, with a motif similar to the James Bond theme, and “Secret Agent Man,” the TV series music. Walter Greenwood, the orchestra’s assistant conductor, will lead “Nobody Does It Better” from the movie “The Spy Who Loved Me.”
The orchestra also will perform two Beatles favorites that Young arranged recently for the orchestra’s participation in the University of Hawaii at Hilo Jazz Festival concert, “She’s Leaving Home” and “Eleanor Rigby.” For the coming concert, she also arranged additional “Eleanor Rigby” melody lines for solo violinists Alden Young, Mark Caudill and Julie Sebag.
Pianist Kanako Okita, cellist Kelly Stuart and Cathy Young, a violinist, will perform three Frank Bridge miniatures. The trio also will join Alden Young and Jang in performing “Csardas” by Michael McLean. A csardas is a folk dance that originated in Hungary and became popular in surrounding regions.
Hilo High School juniors Ina Klasner on cello and Elizabeth Young on violin will play “Larghetto” by Igor Stravinsky.
The concert also will include music by Bach and Seitz.
Although admission is free, donations will benefit Hawaii youth string players. The East Hawaii Cultural Center is at 141 Kalakaua St. in Hilo. For more information, call Cathy Young at 982-9307.
