The Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank, is accepting donations of bottled water, nonperishable foods and supplies to help with disaster relief efforts in the Puna District.
Donations can be dropped off from 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays at its Hilo or Kailua-Kona warehouses. The Food Basket also is accepting monetary donations for disaster relief efforts on Hawaii Island.
“Our team has been conducting a needs assessments over the last two days with our partner agencies in the Puna District in order to get a better idea about specific needs for affected Puna residents,” said Kristin Frost Albrecht, Food Basket executive director.
“During emergencies, one of the best ways the public can help is to provide monetary donations which allows the delivery of the exact relief supplies a community needs,” she said.
The Food Basket also needs volunteers at its warehouses to help with packing, sorting and palletizing donated food and supplies for distribution.
The Hilo warehouse is located at 40 Holomua St.; the Kailua-Kona is at 73-4161 Ulu Wini Place. For more information, visit www.hawaiifoodbasket.org or call 933-6030.
