Bernard Gomes Sr., 90, of Hilo died April 9 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired production manager for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, U.S. Army veteran and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and American Legion. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Monday (April 16) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Casual attire; flowers and lei welcome. Charmaine Rose Lorenzo, 60, of Pittsburg, Calif., died March 26 in Antioch, Calif. Born in Pahala, she owned and operated Hale Kupa‘a School, taught at Hale O Kamali‘i Montessori School, Hale Aloha Nazarene School, Waters of Life (Na Wai Ola) Public Charter School, Boys and Girls Club of Hilo, Goodwill Industries – Ole I Ka Hana, Hilo Community School for Adults, Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy and Paxen After-School All-Stars, attended Malia Puka O Kalani and St. Joseph Catholic churches, was a Hilo High School Class of 1975 alumna and graduated from Chaminade University in early childhood education and Montessori. Gathering of family and friends noon Saturday, April 22, at Wailoa State Recreation Area. Survived by daughter, Maemie H. Ho‘okupumekealoha (Harry Obregon) Lorenzo; parents, Arthur and Elizabeth Lorenzo; sisters, Kathleen (Glenn) Babayan and Kimberlee Lorenzo of Keaau; brothers, Arthur Joey (Trish) Lorenzo of Lihue, Kauai, and Clifford Lorenzo of Waimea; a hanai grandson.

Born in Honolulu, he was a retired electronic technician, former self-defense instructor at Brigham Young University-Hawaii and black-belt aikido instructor.
