HIplan and the Small Business Development Center are collaborating to offer the first Entrepreneur Meetup group from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Aging and Disability Resource Center training room, 1055 Kinoole St. in Hilo.

The Entrepreneur Meetup is an opportunity to gain exposure for your business, learn from others and share your experience with the group. A local entrepreneur will speak briefly about her own business journey. Participants also are encouraged to network with others to discuss ways they can assist each other.

There will be a door prize drawing, so come prepared with enough business cards to distribute and enter the drawing.

There is no charge for the Entrepreneur Meetup and no registration is required. Light pupus will be provided.

The meetup is integral to HIplan’s aim to stimulate the development of an entrepreneurial ecosystem on Hawaii Island.

The HIplan competition encourages contestants to develop or refine their business plans toward developing viable new or expanding existing for-profit or nonprofit enterprises on the island.

The competition is open to any individual or group focusing on developing a startup or expanding a business based on Hawaii Island.

A grand prize of $25,000 in seed money is awarded to the winning plan with categories for the best business plan cultivated by students at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Hawaii Community College.

The SBDC promotes the economic well-being of the Hawaii Island community by helping businesses start, grow and thrive. The SBDC is a program of the University of Hawaii at Hilo funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Small Business Administration.
