The College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo invites the public to “The History of Japanese Flutes with master of shakuhachi Marco Lienhard” on Saturday in University Classroom Building Room 127.
The College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo invites the public to “The History of Japanese Flutes with master of shakuhachi Marco Lienhard” on Saturday in University Classroom Building Room 127.
The event begins with a performance and presentation at 4 p.m. There will be a hands-on introduction from 5:30-6 p.m. for those interested in learning to play the shakuhachi, and a beginning-level workshop from 6-7 p.m. for participants to develop their skill and technique.
Registration is required due to limited seating. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own shakuhachi or fue. There will be limited flutes available to borrow.
Lienhard studied the shakuhachi under master Katsuya Yokoyama and became a virtuoso solo artist. He also is a professional taiko player and founded the group Taikoza in 1995. He now makes his home in New York and tours internationally.
