The Center For Tomorrow’s Leaders salutes four Pahoa High and Intermediate School students for being selected to attend Vision In Action on Oahu and pitching a project that addresses a heartfelt community need.
Hosted Jan. 20 at the Kroc Center Hawaii, Vision in Action, or VIA, is an annual event for student-led projects to shine. Seventy-five students from 20 public and private high schools promoted projects that will make a difference in the school and community.
VIA provides a platform for students to be empowered to make a difference in Hawaii. For their project, the young leaders from Pahoa High are working to build school morale and unity.
Many things have happened to their community that have challenged school morale, including the 2014 lava flow. The students — Harvey Tagalicud, Nanea Kaawaloa, Noelle Pelayo and Leanna Nais — think that by hosting a schoolwide potluck it will help in restoring unity and morale in our community.
“As Pahoa unites, our community becomes an ohana,” they wrote.
During the past few years, Center for Tomorrow’s Leaders has hosted more than 100 projects as young leaders move from idea to impact. CTL is a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging, equipping and empowering Hawaii’s future leaders to start making a difference now.
CTL programs are designed to broaden Hawaii’s base of leaders and expand the leadership capacity of each student in character, communication, competency and connection.
